Bhubaneswar: A Vigilance Court in Bolangir today sentenced a Revenue Inspector to four years of rigorous imprisonment (RI) after convicting him in a bribery case.
According to an official press release, Spl. Judge, Vigilance, Bolangir on Thursday sentenced one Satyanarayan Kumura, Revenue Inspector of Telenpali under Khaprakhol Tahasil in Bolangir district to undergo RI for 4 years and a fine of Rs 2,000 and in default of payment of fine, to undergo further RI for 3 months more for the offence under section 13(2) read with 13(1)(d) of PC Act,1988.
The court convicted Kumura for demanding and accepting a bribe from a complainant for submitting an enquiry report in respect of a genealogy report of the land of his relative.
The court further sentenced him to undergo RI for 3 years and a fine of Rs.2,000 and in default of payment of the fine, to undergo further RI for 2 months more for the offence under section 7 of P C Act,1988.
Both the sentences are to run concurrently, the court said in the verdict.
Convict Kumura was today sent to jail custody to serve his sentence.
The release said that Odisha Vigilance will now move the competent authority for the dismissal of Kumura from service following his conviction.
