Bhubaneswar: An elderly woman was trampled to death by a rogue elephant when she had gone to pluck mangoes. This incident took place at Anlabereni village under the Handapa Forest Area in Angul district, on Saturday.
The deceased has been identified as Asha Dehuri.
As per reports, Dehuri had gone to pluck mangoes to a nearby orchard in the early morning when the tusker attacked her. Though Dehuri managed to run away some metres to save herself from the clutches of the wild elephant, the latter chased her and trampled her to death.
Dehuri’s death led to tension in the village with locals demanding compensation for the deceased’s family.
Upon being informed, forest officials reached the spot and began a probe into the incident.
