Bhubaneswar: A 56-year-old framer was killed in an elephant attack in the Sukuda village of under Bisra block in Sundargarh district late Monday night.
The deceased has been identified as Anand Prakash Khadia, a local farmer.
According to reports, he was attacked by a herd of wild elephants while he was answering nature’s call in a field near his house in the wee hours of Tuesday. Upon hearing Anand’s screams, the villagers rushed to the scene and tried to chase away the elephants. Anand was lying seriously injured and succumbed to injuries by the time the ambulance arrived at around 6:30 am.
The incident has sparked widespread outrage among the villagers. They have alleged that the elephants have been frequently entering their village, causing damage to crops and property. However, the forest department has failed to take adequate measures to prevent such incidents.
