Rourkela: Mystery shrouds the death of a Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) employee. Identified as A Baxla (56), the employee was found in a critical condition inside a tunnel of the Steel Melting Shop 2 (SMS) department.
The occurred on Saturday evening after Baxla had gone inside the tunnel of the basic oxygen furnace section of SMS-2 to evacuate water.
According to sources at the RSP, when Baxla did not return even after two hours, his co-workers went to search for him and found him lying unconscious in the tunnel. He was rushed to the Ispat General Hospital (IGH) where doctors declared him dead during treatment.
While the precise cause of Baxla’s death is yet to be ascertained, the autopsy report is awaited.
On Sunday, the RSP management handed over a written offer for compassionate employment to the daughter of the deceased.
The incident came five days after a contractual worker was found dead on the railway track of the raw materials handling plant of the RSP, sources added.
