Bhubaneswar: In view of the incessant heavy rainfall triggered by the deep depression over the Bay of Bengal, the district administrations of Gajapati, Nabarangpur and Kalahandi have extended the closure of educational institutions till tomorrow.
As per the orders issued by the respective District Collectors, all schools and Anganwadi centres in these three districts will remain closed on Friday as well. The decision applies to all government and private schools.
The administration said the decision has been taken keeping in mind the safety and security of students as heavy to very heavy rain continues to lash south and western Odisha.
Earlier, holidays had been declared till today in these districts. However, as the rain situation has not improved and waterlogging, overflowing drains and disruption in road connectivity have been reported from several low-lying areas, the closure has been extended by another day.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued heavy rain alerts for Gajapati, Nabarangpur, Kalahandi and other south Odisha districts. The weather agency has forecast that heavy rainfall activity is likely to continue under the influence of the deep depression which crossed the coast near Kalingapatnam and is moving inland.
