Bhubaneswar: Senior trade union leader and CITU All India Vice President Bishnu Mohanty passed away early on Saturday morning at KIMS Hospital in Bhubaneswar. He was 75.
According to sources, Mohanty was undergoing treatment for diabetes-related complications. He was admitted to the hospital 15 days ago. His condition deteriorated sharply around 2 am on Friday night, after which he was put on ventilator support. He breathed his last at 3:15 AM on Saturday.
As per his last wish, his mortal remains will be donated to the hospital for medical education and research.
Mohanty was a veteran Marxist leader and one of the most prominent faces of the trade union movement in Odisha. For several decades, he played a pivotal role in strengthening the trade union movement across the state.
Known for his simplicity, dedication, and strong organizational skills, Mohanty was widely respected among workers, political leaders, and social activists for his lifelong commitment to labour rights and the welfare of the working class.
Leaders from various political parties, trade unions, and social organisations have expressed deep grief over his demise.
