Khordha: In a major crackdown on drug trafficking, Bolagarh Police arrested seven persons for smuggling.
According to an official press note issued by Odisha Police District Headquarters, Khordha, the raid was conducted on August 3 at around 10.10 am near Maa Mangala Temple on NH-57 under Bolagarh Police Station limits.
Acting on specific and credible information, a raiding team led by Inspector Sukanta Dalai, IIC, of Bolagarh Police Station, under the direction of SP Khordha and supervision of SDPO Pankaj Kumar Majhi intercepted a Tata Punch car bearing registration No OD-02-BX-7872 and an escorting Pulsar 150 motorcycle bearing No OD-02-CT-7743.Five occupants of the car and two persons escorting it on the motorcycle were apprehended.
The seven arrested persons have been identified as Lipu Digal (33), Binayak Prasad Sahani (23), Kadambari Kanhar (35), Pramila Kanhar (40), Sankrabati Kanhar (40), Mrutunjaya Digal (26) and Jimendra Digal, all residents of Ladapadar and Dinabali villages under Phiringia police limits in Kandhamal district.
The raid was conducted by a team led by Inspector Sukanta Dalai and SI Hadubandhu Dash is the Investigating Officer of the case.
Following legal formalities under Section 50 of the NDPS Act in presence of an Executive Magistrate, police recovered three sacks containing suspected ganja from the boot of the car. The total net weight of the contraband was found to be 60 kg 350 grams. The total contraband seized in the case was 60 kg 350 grams, estimated to be worth Rs 6,30,000.
Police also seized two mobile phones, the car, and the motorcycle. A case has been registered at Bolagarh PS vide Case No. 363 dated 03.08.2026 under Sections 20(b)(ii)(C)/29 of the NDPS Act, 1985.
Further investigation into the matter is underway.
