Bargarh: The Rural Police on Monday busted a sex racket operating from a roadside eatery (Jaya Dhaba) at Dhangar village under Bargarh Rural police limits in Bargarh district. Five persons were arrested and one woman was rescued during the raid.
The arrested persons have been identified as Atmaram Panda (54) and his wife Pranati Panda (44), the owners of the dhaba. Three customers—Nimai Sahu (29), Sumanta Bhoi (22), and Madan Banchhor (26)—were also taken into custody from the spot. Police rescued a woman who is suspected to be involved in the racket.
According to police, acting on credible information regarding illegal prostitution activities, a special team was formed under the supervision of the Superintendent of Police (SP) and the SDPO, Bargarh. The team conducted a raid at the dhaba on April 19, during which objectionable activities were detected.
During the operation, police seized Rs 26,260 in cash, 263.8 litres of foreign liquor (FL), and 32 litres of country liquor (OS) from the premises.
All five accused were arrested and subsequently forwarded to court. Further investigation into the case is underway, police said.
