Bhubaneswar: In a significant administrative reshuffle, the central government has appointed former Reserve Bank of India (RBI) Governor Shaktikanta Das as the Principal Secretary-2 to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The announcement was made through an official notification issued by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) on Saturday.
Das, who served as the RBI Governor for six years from December 2018, brings with him a wealth of experience spanning four decades in governance.
He has held key positions in both the central and state governments, with expertise in finance, taxation, industries, infrastructure, and other critical areas. His appointment as Principal Secretary will be co-terminus with the term of the Prime Minister or until further orders, whichever comes earlier.
Shaktikanta Das’s appointment underscores the government’s focus on leveraging his extensive administrative and economic expertise to support the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO). His tenure at the RBI was marked by significant initiatives to stabilize the economy during challenging times, including the COVID-19 pandemic.
