Bhubaneswar: The skeleton of elephant ‘Ramu’, who died of electrocution on August 19 last year, has been recovered from an underground burial site in the Bharatpur forest. The exhumation was carried out by a 25-member team led by a zoologist.

Two tusks were recovered from the site, one weighing 4 kg and the other 2.5 kg. The skeleton will be preserved at the Godibari Prakuti Nivas in Chandaka.

Ramu’s death had sparked widespread concern among wildlife conservationists and animal lovers. The recovery of the skeleton is expected to provide valuable insights into the cause of death and help in further investigation.

The forest department had earlier announced plans to preserve Ramu’s skeleton for educational and conservation purposes. The exhumation is a significant step towards achieving this goal.
