Malkangiri: A sloth bear trapped inside an open well at MPV-26 village under the Kalimela forest range in Malkangiri district was successfully rescued on Friday following a swift operation by the forest department.
According to officials, the rescue operation was launched after the Rapid Response Team (RRT) received reliable information about the animal being trapped in the well. Acting promptly, the RRT, along with forest officials, rushed to the spot and initiated rescue efforts.
After several hours of sustained and carefully coordinated operations, the sloth bear was safely pulled out of the well without any major injury. The rescued animal was immediately examined by a Veterinary Officer and has been kept under medical observation as a precautionary measure.
Forest officials stated that after completion of the necessary treatment and observation period, the sloth bear will be released safely into its natural habitat.
The timely intervention by the Rapid Response Team and forest staff helped prevent any harm to the animal, highlighting the department’s preparedness in handling wildlife rescue operations.
