Sonepur: In a shocking incident, Subarnapur’s Youth Congress leader Rajesh Mishra allegedly shot himself dead  at his residence in the Bhagabati Nagar in Subarnapur town on Tuesday night.

According to preliminary information, Mishra is believed to have taken his own life by shooting himself in the head with his licensed revolver around 1 am. The sound of the gunshot alerted family members and neighbours, who promptly informed the police. However, the motive behind the suicide is unclear.

Police, meanwhile, sent for post-mortem examination to ascertain the exact cause of death. A forensic team from Balangir is expected to visit the scene for further probe.

Mishra was known for his friendly nature and had recently been appointed Congress treasurer. He had held various positions within the district Congress committee. His death has left the district Congress and the town in mourning.
