Bhubaneswar: In a significant move to enhance road safety, passenger comfort, and convenience, the State Transport Authority (STA), Odisha has decided to ban the operation of commercial vehicles registered in other states that are more than 10 years old from the date of manufacture.
The Transport Commissioner-cum-Chairman of the State Transport Authority has now issued a formal order to implement this resolution across the state. All Regional Transport Officers (RTOs) have been directed to ensure strict compliance.
As per the new directive taken during the 301st STA meeting on July 19, 2023, commercial vehicles exceeding the 10-year age limit and registered outside Odisha will not be allowed to operate within the state. The concerned authorities have also been instructed not to issue any new permits to such vehicles.
In addition, all Regional Transport Officers and Assistant Regional Transport Officers have been prohibited from allowing ownership transfers, change of address, or accepting any form of transport tax in respect of such out-of-state vehicles older than 10 years.
“All the Regional Transport Officers are instructed not to make any change of address, not to allow transfer of ownership, not to accept tax in respect of other State stage / contract carriage vehicles which are more than 10 years old henceforth”, read the order issued by the State Transport Authority.
