Bhubaneswar: A 26-year-old man from Jagatsinghpur district has been arrested in the capital city for allegedly stalking a young woman and attempting to abduct her, police said on Tuesday.
The accused, identified as Narayan Behera, had been working at a fast-food stall in the Master Canteen area.
According to a complaint filed by the victim’s mother at the Kharvelnagar police station on September 28, Behera had been harassing the girl for several days by following her, verbally abusing her, and issuing threats of kidnapping.
Matters escalated on the night of September 27, when Behera allegedly barged into the victim’s residence. He is accused of abusing the girl and her family members before trying to forcibly take her away. His attempt failed after the victim’s family resisted and neighbours intervened, forcing him to flee.
Following an investigation, police tracked Behera down to the Master Canteen locality and took him into custody. He has since been formally arrested and further investigation is underway, police said.
