Bhubaneswar: The state-level birth anniversary of nationalist leader Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya was observed today at Jayadev Bhawan under the aegis of the Information and Public Relations Department, with dignitaries and intellectuals paying tribute to his life and ideals.
Speaking as the chief guest, Minister of Law, Public Works, and Excise Prithviraj Harichandan described Upadhyaya as a figure of simplicity, patriotism, and unwavering determination.
He highlighted the leader’s contributions as a philosopher, journalist, writer, and organizer, noting that his vision of Integral Humanism emphasized holistic development of society, nature, and individuals.
Harichandan underlined Upadhyaya’s focus on self-reliance, Swadeshi ideology, rural development, and the upliftment of the most marginalized sections of society, principles that continue to guide India’s progress today.
As guest of honour, Bhubaneswar-Ekamra MLA Babu Singh elaborated on the concept of Antyodaya, central to Upadhyaya’s philosophy, which advocates prioritizing the welfare of the most disadvantaged. He said that although the leader’s vision is yet to be fully realized, it remains a source of inspiration for ongoing social and economic initiatives.
The welcome address was delivered by Hemant Sharma, Additional Chief Secretary, Information and Public Relations Department, who noted that Upadhyaya’s Integral Humanism harmonizes with the ideas of Swami Vivekananda and Mahatma Gandhi, offering guidance for India’s contemporary development.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Sucheta Priyadarshini, Deputy Director of the department. Senior officials, intellectuals, distinguished guests, and media representatives were present at the ceremony.
