Bhubaneswar: The State Transport Authority has issued a fresh order revising passenger bus fares in the state following a significant increase in diesel prices.
The fare revision includes the following changes (all rates in paise per kilometre): Ordinary buses will now charge 92 paise per km against the existing 90 paise per km. Express services will see an increase from 94 to 96 paise per km. Deluxe buses have been revised from 131 to 135 paise per km, while AC Deluxe buses will now cost 163 paise per km instead of 159 paise per km. Super Deluxe buses will charge passengers 253 paise per km, up from the previous 247 paise per km.
The revision comes after the per-litre diesel price rose from Rs. 95.87 to Rs. 100.68 as on 31 May 2026, resulting in a cumulative increase of Rs. 4.81 per litre including carryover effects.
According to the order issued by the Office of the Transport Commissioner-cum-Chairman, the new fares will apply to all stage carriages other than town buses operating within the state.
The revised rates have been fixed at an increased amount equal to Rs 4.81 in direct response to the fuel price hike and will come into effect immediately from the date of issuance of the order.
However, all other conditions mentioned in the earlier Transport Department notifications remain unchanged.
The State Transport Authority has stated that this adjustment is necessary to offset the rising operational costs faced by bus operators due to the fuel price surge.
