Bhubaneswar: As part of its ongoing Nishamukta Abhiyan (Drug-Free Campaign), aimed at building a drug-free and safer society, Subarnapur Police on Sunday carried out a series of strict enforcement drives against ganja smuggling and the illegal liquor trade across various police station jurisdictions in the district.
In a major operation under Dunguripali Police Station Case No. 163 dated 28.06.2026, registered under Sections 20(b)(ii)(C)/25/29 of the NDPS Act, police seized 22.578 kg of ganja along with a Mahindra Scorpio vehicle. In connection with the case, Mohan Sahu (43), a resident of Uchhabahal village under Agalpur Police Station in Balangir district, was arrested and forwarded to court.
In another action under Tarbha Police Station Case No. 243 dated 28.06.2026, registered under Section 52(a) of the Odisha Excise Act, police arrested Khageswar Rana (35) of Ailachuan village under Kantamal Police Station in Boudh district. Authorities seized 85 litres of illicit country liquor and a Hero Glamour motorcycle bearing registration number OD-13F-4722 from his possession. He was subsequently produced before the court.
Similarly, under Ulunda Police Station Case No. 128 dated 28.06.2026, also registered under Section 52(a) of the Odisha Excise Act, police arrested Basudev Seth (45) of Badali village in Subarnapur district. During the operation, 90 litres of illicit country liquor stored in rubber tubes and a grey Hero Honda Passion Plus motorcycle without a registration number plate were seized. The accused was forwarded to court.
Subarnapur Police stated that the Nishamukta Abhiyan will continue with sustained and stringent action against the illegal narcotics and liquor trade to ensure a drug-free and secure society across the district.
