Bhubaneswar: Frustrated over serpentine queues at the centers for updating their Aadhaar details for the Subhadra Yojana, furious locals staged a road blockade on the National Highway-57 near Bhograi in Odisha’s Balasore district on Thursday.
Long queues were seen at Bhograi post office on Thursday morning for updating Aadhaar with latest phone numbers. Some women standing in the queues said that they have been waiting since Wednesday night. One woman said, “We have been queuing up here for the last four days only to be told the come the next day.”
Women stood in queues to set right different mistakes in their Aadhaar cards, including date of birth and surname and phone numbers fearing that submission of incorrect details might lead to rejection of their claims for the benefits.
The situation has worsened as some centers are taking up Aadhaar corrections for only 50 people in a day.
Police were seen struggling to pacify the agitating women at different centers in the state. Absence of the facilities at the panchayats has made the situation difficult for both – the beneficiaries as well as the employees engaged in the job.
As chaos persisted, Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida’s clarified on Wednesday that there is no deadline for enrolment in the scheme and it will continue till all eligible women are included.
