Sand Sculpture For Deba Snana Purnima

Bhubaneswar: Renowned sand artist Sudarsan Pattnaik has created an exquisite sand sculpture depicting Lord Jagannath, Devi Subhadra, and Lord Balabhadra on the occasion of Deba Snana Purnima.

The artwork, installed on Puri Beach, is adorned with 108 Kalash (sacred pots), symbolizing divine purity and devotion.

Deba Snana Purnima, observed with great reverence in Puri, marks the ceremonial bathing ritual of the deities ahead of the annual Rath Yatra. Pattnaik’s sand art pays tribute to this sacred tradition, drawing large crowds of devotees and tourists to the seashore.

Sharing his creation on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), Pattnaik wrote, “Wishing everyone Mahaprabhu’s grace and blessings on the pious occasion of Deba Snana Purnima. Delighted to share my sand art on Puri Beach. Grateful to the Chief Administrator of @sjta_puri for visiting.”

The sculpture features the divine Trio with intricately designed facial expressions and ornamentation, set against a backdrop of 108 Kalash—each representing a symbol of spiritual sanctity. The message ‘Jai Jagannath’ is prominently etched in the sand, enhancing the spiritual ambiance of the display.

Speaking to mediapersons, Pattnaik said, “On the auspicious occasion of Deba Snana Purnima, devotees from across the world have gathered in Puri to witness the celebrations. We have created beautiful sculptures of Lord Jagannath using 108 sacred Kalash (pots).”

This year’s celebration has once again highlighted the role of art in spiritual expression and cultural heritage, with Pattnaik’s sand sculpture standing as a centerpiece of devotion and craftsmanship.
