Bhubaneswar: Biju Janata Dal (BJD) leader and former IAS officer Sujata Rout Karthikeyan on Saturday strongly criticised the BJP government over the ongoing campus elections, alleging that outsiders and goons were entering college premises and disrupting the process.
In a video message, Karthikeyan questioned how goons managed to enter a women’s college by breaking iron gates and why students were being threatened on campus. She further alleged that police were terrorising members of the Biju Chhatra Janata Dal (BCJD) and that college authorities were issuing threats to BCJD student leaders.
“I strongly condemn this,” she said. “In such a situation, the peaceful environment of the colleges and the academic atmosphere is being ruined. What message is being given to the student community by threatening them? What education is being given to our future generations?”
Karthikeyan asserted that the BJP government’s first responsibility is to ensure peaceful students’ union elections so that students can learn without fear.
She stated that the Biju Janata Dal would never tolerate any attempt to play with the future of students and called for healthy electoral politics and peaceful campuses.
