Bhubaneswar: Tribals of Khairguda village under Tusura police limits in Odisha’s Bolangir district celebrated the annual ‘Sulia Jatra’ on Monday by sacrificing animals on Tuesday morning. Marching in processions with traditional weapons, they reached the Sulia shrine to perform the animal sacrifice.
Hundreds of tribals from different areas of the state arrived in Khairguda village to participate in this annual ritual. This year, the tribals are celebrating Sulia Jatra with pomp and gaiety as the apex court has given some relief to them for animal sacrifice.
According to reports, after the processions reached the Sulia shrine, the head priest, dressed in an outfit made from leaves, offered ‘Anna bhog’ to the devotees and began the animal sacrifice ritual. Tribals from different places have assembled at the Sulia shrine and offered animals like goats and hens for sacrifice.
The tribal devotees believe that offering the blood of animals and birds to their Sulia deity brings a good harvest and ensures prosperity and happiness in their families as well as their community.
Keeping in view the large gathering, the district administration made adequate security arrangements to ensure that the celebrations were peaceful.
