Puri: While the majority of places in Odisha continue to sizzle in this season, pilgrim town Puri is no exception to it. Heatwave’s wrath is distressing for devotees coming from different parts of the country.
Keeping oneself hydrated is very essential under these circumstances. A desi concoction with six wonder herbs, prepared by students and faculty members of Gopabandhu Ayurveda Mahavidyalaya has found many fans to begin with.
Gopabandhu Ayurveda Mahavidyalaya Principal Prof (Dr) Surdarsan Behera said, herbal summer drinks have double benefits – apart from hydrating the body and maintaining fluid levels, the herbs cure ailments as well.
“‘Shadanga Paniya’ is a very famous Ayurvedic medicine in liquid form. Also known as Shadanga Paneeya, the ayurvedic formulation of six selected herbs helps in early diagnosis of fever and relieves excessive thirst and burning sensation,” Dr Debaprasad Dash said.
Apart from this, the drink pacifies acidity, removes toxins, and boosts appetite. The wonder drink is prepared by using Mustha (Cyperus rotundus), Parpata (Fumaria indica), Chandana (Santalum album), Ushira (Vetiveria zizanioides), Shunti (Zingiber offcianlis), and Netra Bala ( Pavonia odorata), in equal proportions, he added.
Prof Behera inaugurated the ‘Ayurveda Jal Seva’ service in form of a kiosk, delivering the herbal drink at the main gate of the college. “The service will continue for the next one month. Today, the drink was served to commuters on the VIP Road here, and they were satisfied consuming it,” he said.
