Sundargarh: A Special POCSO Court in Sundargarh on Monday convicted a 22-year-old man in a child rape case and sentenced him to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment (RI) along with a fine of ₹50,000.
The court found the accused, identified as Luv Khadia, guilty under relevant provisions of the IPC, including Section 376 AB, and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. The court further ruled that failure to pay the fine would result in an additional one year of imprisonment.
According to case details, the incident occurred on March 17, 2022, under the jurisdiction of Hemgir police station. The six-year-old victim had gone to a nearby shop in the afternoon when the accused allegedly abducted her from near her residence and sexually assaulted her inside her home.
The child initially did not disclose the incident but later informed her family after experiencing severe pain. Subsequently, a complaint was lodged with the police, leading to the registration of a case and the arrest of the accused.
During the trial, the court relied on police investigation reports and witness testimonies to establish the charges. Special Public Prosecutor Pravat Kumar Nanda represented the case.
