Patnagarh (Balangir): The body of a woman, Krishna Sahu, a resident of Nehenabandh village under Patnagarh police limits in Balangir district, was recovered under suspicious circumstances on Friday. Following serious allegations of murder by her maternal family, the police have arrested her husband, Alok Sahu.
According to sources, Krishna had married Alok Sahu of Nehenabandh three years ago. She hailed from Semelmunda village under Gaisilet police limits in Bargarh district. The couple had a one-year-old child. However, reports suggest that the couple’s relationship had been marred by frequent quarrels.
On Friday, Krishna was found hanging at her in-laws’ residence. Her family rushed to the spot after learning about the incident. Upon receiving the information, police personnel along with a scientific team arrived and initiated an investigation.
While the initial impression pointed towards suicide, Krishna’s family claimed she was being physically abused by her husband, allegedly at the instigation of his mother. They believe she was murdered and have lodged a formal complaint at the Patnagarh police station.
In a significant revelation, Krishna, who worked as a staff nurse at the Padmapur Sub-Divisional Hospital in Bargarh district, had reportedly sent a video to her father on Friday morning. The video allegedly showed her husband assaulting her.
Speaking on the matter, SDPO Sadananda Pujari confirmed that the police conducted a detailed investigation at the scene in the presence of a magistrate. Based on the complaint filed by Krishna’s father, the police registered a case and intensified their probe. The accused husband, Alok Sahu, was taken into custody for questioning and subsequently arrested.
The incident has sparked outrage in the region and brought renewed attention to the issue of domestic violence.
