Rayagada: A 59-year-old teacher of a school at Indira Nagar in the town was assaulted by the guardians and students for allegedly molesting and misbehaving with the girls of the school.

The teacher named Manoranjan Nayak allegedly harassed minor girl students with inappropriate touch to body parts in the absence of other school staff. He had been doing such illegal and unethical act for last one month, a guardian alleged.

Some students narrated their ordeal before their parents following which irate guardians and locals gheraoed the school today and thrashed the accused teacher. As tension mounted on the school premises, local police had to intervene in the matter. Police rescued the teacher and detained him for questioning.

A guardian alleged that her granddaughter feared to come to the school. “My granddaughter told that teacher sometimes touched our arms, chest and back. He also enters the girls’ toilet when the students are in,” she said.

On the other hand, the accused teacher pleaded innocence. “This is a false allegation leveled against me. I have never done something wrong. I have no such bad record in my whole career,” Manoranjan said.

Meanwhile, the headmaster of the school said that a committee would investigate the allegation and submit a report to higher authorities.
