Bhubaneswar: An assistant teacher serving as a Booth Level Officer (BLO) has been suspended for alleged gross negligence and dereliction of duty during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral rolls.
The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) issued an official statement confirming the disciplinary action against Rashmi Sahoo , who is posted at Government High School, Chandrasekharpur Phase-II.
Sahoo was designated as BLO for Booth No. 109 under Assembly Constituency No. 113. In this role, she was responsible for carrying out SIR-related tasks as mandated under the Representation of the People Act, 1950 and 1951, including verification and updating of voter lists to ensure accurate electoral rolls.
Officials found that she repeatedly failed to attend to or perform her assigned duties without any valid reason or prior permission. The lapses were described as serious misconduct, amounting to disobedience of lawful orders and gross negligence in fulfilling statutory obligations.
District Election Officer and BMC Commissioner Chanchal Rana ordered her immediate suspension under Section 32(1) of the Representation of the People Act, 1950.
