Bhubaneswar: Two separate incidents of drowning have claimed the lives of three persons including two minor boys, in Odisha. In the first incident, a grandfather and his 11-year-old grandson lost their lives in the Baitarani river in Silipada village of Keonjhar.
Basudev Mahanta and his grandson Divyanshu Mahanta drowned while bathing in the river before heading to a temple for a birthday celebration. The grandfather had jumped into the river to save his two grandchildren who were struggling in the water, but unfortunately, he and one of the grandchildren, Divyanshu, succumbed to the currents.
In a separate incident, a 14-year-old student drowned in the Tarakera Dam of the Brahmani River in Rourkela. The teenager had gone for a bath with friends and went missing. After a search operation, the body was recovered.
