Angul: A devastating road accident near Khandahata Bridge under Angul Sadar police station on Saturday claimed three lives and left three others critically injured after a head-on collision between an auto-rickshaw and a car.
The deceased have been identified as Banshidhar Sethi, his wife Kamala Sethi, and auto driver Mantu Muduli (30). The injured include Sunita Sethi (30), her 12-year-old son Shri Sai Sethi, and a man identified as Biswajit.
According to reports, the Sethi family from Karanda village under Balimi police station had visited Angul hospital for Banshidhar’s treatment. Accompanied by his wife, daughter-in-law, and grandson, he later went to Turang village for a meal before returning home. On the way back, their auto was hit by a car coming from Narsinghpur. The impact was so severe that the car dragged the auto into a roadside field, leaving it mangled under the vehicle.
While Banshidhar, Kamala, and driver Mantu died on the spot, Sunita and her son sustained critical injuries. The car owner was also seriously injured, though details about the driver remain unclear.
On receiving information, personnel from the Angul Fire Department rushed to the spot, rescued the victims, and shifted the injured to the District Headquarters Hospital. Sadar police have registered a case and begun an investigation.
