Bhubaneswar: A tragic incident marred the festive spirit of Durga Puja in Rourkela on Friday evening, leaving three members of a family injured. They sustained injuries after falling off a joyride at the Sector-6 Telephone Bhavan Mela Ground.
According to reports, the family of three – a couple and their 12-year-old daughter – had visited the fair to enjoy the festivities. After the darshan of Goddess Durga, they decided to take a ride in Rama Doli (joyride). However, due to a technical glitch, the chair they were sitting in suddenly collapsed, causing the trio to fall from a height.
The injured have been identified as residents of the Ramadeuli area. They were immediately rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Following the mishap, Sector-7 Police stopped the joyride and registered a suo motu case. Besides, police have launched an investigation.
The incident has raised concerns about safety measures at public events.
It may be mentioned that this year, Rourkela is hosting 108 Durga Puja pandals across the city, with 49 in the Ispat Nagar area alone.
