Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department has issued Yellow Warnings (Be Aware) for several districts of Odisha, forecasting thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty surface winds reaching 30-40 kmph over the next five days.
On July 9, thunderstorms with gusty wind are very likely to occur at one or two places over Sundargarh, Angul, Keonjhar, and Mayurbhanj districts.
On July 10, the warning extends to Balasore, Bhadrak, Sundargarh, Angul, Keonjhar, and Mayurbhanj. On July 11, thunderstorm activity with lightning and gusty winds is expected over Sundargarh, Angul, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, and Boudh districts.
Thereafter, on July 12 and 13, the possibility of thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds will continue over Sundargarh, Keonjhar, and Mayurbhanj districts.
The Met department has advised people in the affected districts to stay alert, particularly during the afternoon and evening hours.
Farmers, travellers, and those working outdoors are requested to take necessary precautions as gusty winds may cause damage to standing crops, weak structures, and unsecured objects.
People have also been advised to avoid taking shelter under trees during thunderstorms.
