Bhubaneswar: The Meteorological Centre, Bhubaneswar, on Thursday issued a nowcast yellow warning for Bhubaneswar and Cuttack districts, including the twin cities, forecasting thunderstorms accompanied by lightning, light to moderate rainfall and gusty surface winds reaching 40-50 kmph during the next three hours.
In a bulletin issued at 3.25 pm, the weather office advised residents to remain alert and closely monitor weather conditions. People have been urged to move to safer locations if weather conditions deteriorate and to take necessary precautions against lightning strikes and strong winds.
Earlier, in a separate nowcast warning issued at 2.50 pm, the Meteorological Centre predicted similar weather conditions over Gajapati, Kalahandi, Koraput, Nabarangpur, Balasore and Sundargarh districts during the next three hours.
The weather office said thunderstorms with lightning, accompanied by light to moderate rain and wind speeds of 40-50 kmph, are likely to occur at one or two places in these districts.
Residents in the affected areas have been advised to stay vigilant and avoid open spaces during thunderstorms. The Meteorological Centre has urged people to take shelter in safe locations and follow weather advisories to minimise risks from lightning and strong winds.
