Bhubaneswar: Thunderstorm activity with lightning was experienced in several places in the State including the Capital city today from afternoon till evening under the impact of western disturbance.
according to reports, north and south Odisha including Cuttack, Khordha, Nayagarh, Kandhamal, and Bolangir districts witnessed rain with thunderstorms and lightning. Some places witnessed strong winds and scattered events of hailstorms. The power supply remained disrupted in many places.
Rayagada district along with rain witnessed hailstorm activity. Two women from Kanjakana village under Kashipur block in Rayagada district were critically injured after being hit by hailstones. They have been admitted to the Community Health Centre (CHC) at Kashipur.
Similarly, in Pratappur village in the Nilgiri area of the Balasore district 16 heads of cattle have been killed in a lightning strike.
The rain came as a blessing for dousing forest fires in several parts of the state.
While there are reports of trees being badly damaged at several places, a huge tree fell on a bus at Sahadevkhunta bus stand in Balasore city. Luckily there were no passengers inside the bus as it was scheduled to depart for Kolkata from Balasore in the night today.
