Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a nowcast warning for thunderstorm accompanied by lightning, light to moderate rainfall, and gusty surface winds reaching up to 40 kmph at one or two places over 17 districts of Odisha.
The warning was issued at 1 pm on Saturday and is valid for the next three hours.
According to the IMD, the weather event is very likely to occur over the districts of Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nabarangapur, Rayagada, Gajapati, Ganjam, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Sundergarh, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Balasore, Bhadrak, Mayurbhanj, and Keonjhar. These districts have been issued yellow alert.
People in these areas have been advised to remain alert and keep a close watch on the weather for any worsening conditions.
The IMD has urged residents to avoid taking shelter under trees during thunderstorms and lightning, refrain from venturing into open fields or water bodies, and take necessary precautions, particularly farmers and fishermen.
