Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Monday evening issued a nowcast warning for eight districts of Odisha, forecasting thunderstorms accompanied by lightning, light to moderate rainfall, and gusty surface winds over the next three hours.
According to the Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar, thunderstorm activity with lightning and wind speeds reaching 40-50 kmph is very likely to occur at one or two places in Balangir, Boudh, Keonjhar, Cuttack, Gajapati, Bhadrak, Balasore and Nabarangpur districts.
The warning, issued at 6:15 PM, also covers Cuttack city, where residents have been advised to remain alert to changing weather conditions.
The IMD has urged people in the affected areas to keep a close watch on the weather and be prepared to move to safer locations in the event of worsening conditions. Residents have also been advised to take necessary precautions against lightning strikes and strong winds.
The weather office continues to monitor the situation and may issue further updates depending on the evolution of the thunderstorm activity.
