Baripada: Tigress Zeenat has been brought back from West Bengal to Similpal Tiger Reserve in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district late on Tuesday. The tigress was brought to Similpal from the veterinary hospital of Alipore Zoo in Kolkata in a special vehicle.
According to reports, Zeenat was brought to Odisha through a Green Corridor and she entered Odisha through the interstate border at Jamshola around 1:25 am on Tuesday and was taken to Similpal.
A 10-member team of the Odisha Forest Department went to Kolkata to bring the tigress.
As of now, Tigress Zeenat will be kept in a soft enclosure in Similipal and the next course of action will be taken after observing her health condition and activities.
Tigress Zeenat was released in Similipal Tiger Reserve’s core on November 23 after she was brought from Maharashtra’s Tadoba. However, she left the tiger reserve and ventured out in neighbouring Jharkhand on December 8.
The three-year-old tiger subsequently moved to West Bengal making it difficult for the Forest officials to keep track on the big cat as her radio collar stopped functioning due to technical glitches. Later, they found roaming in the Bankura forest. Following this, they closed all routes within a few kilometre radius of the forest and accelerated efforts to tranquilise it and succeeded in doing on Sunday after 21 days of trail.
After tranquilising the big cat, the forest officials kept it in the Alipore zoo for an observation before handing over to the Odisha forest department.
