Baripada: A one-and-a-half-year-old boy was killed and his grandmother was critically injured after a mud wall of a house collapsed on them in Mayurbhanj district on Thursday, police said.
The incident took place at Chingudipokhari village in Kusumi block under Rairangpur Rural police station limits in the morning.
The deceased was identified as Jayaram Tudu, son of Madan Mohan Tudu. His grandmother, Basanti Tudu, also came under the debris when the mud wall collapsed.
Both were initially rushed to Rairangpur Sub-Divisional Hospital in critical condition. As their condition deteriorated, they were referred to Pandit Raghunath Murmu Medical College and Hospital in Baripada. However, Jayaram died while being taken to Baripada.
Basanti, who sustained serious injuries, was later shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Kataka for advanced treatment.
The boy’s post-mortem examination was conducted on Thursday, following which his body was handed over to the family.
