Jagatsinghpur: Son of 80-year-old Babaji Sethi, Prashant, was arrested by Tirtol police today on charges of torturing his elderly parents which forced them to quit home and take shelter in a cremation ground.

According to Babaji and his wife Kanchan, Prashant’s wife Miti tortured them physically and mentally. Their daughter Mitali and her children were also not spared from the cruelty of the couple.

As the news of this family staying put in the cremation ground spread, local administration and block representatives intervened and shifted Babaji and his family to the Anganwadi centre, after having spent two nights in the deserted cremation ground.

Following the intervention of authorities, and based on Babaji’s complaint, the police registered an FIR against the couple today. On February 10, the couple threatened to set the house on fire following which Babaji filed a police complaint.

The matter was however solved later. But Prashant and his wife threatened Babaji and others to leave the house. With no option left, Babaji chose to leave his home with his wife, daughter Mitali and grandchildren.

A native of Bila Arilo village under Tirtol police limits, Babaji and his family returned home today in the presence of police. The elderly man was happy having returned home, after having undergone an unspeakable ordeal.
