Bhubaneswar: A tractor driver reportedly died after the vehicle lost balance and overturned into a pond near Guapur Balunkeswar under Balipatna police station limits in Khordha districts on Monday.
As per reports, when the tractor overturned into the pond, the engine landed on the driver, pinning him down so he could not move or escape. That’s why, it took rescuers nearly three hours to free him from under the engine and pull him out of the water.
Personnel from the Balipatna Fire Service, assisted by local residents, carried out the rescue operation. The injured driver was immediately taken to the Balipatna Community Health Centre, where doctors declared him dead after examination.
The deceased has been identified as Soumya Ranjan Kandi, also known as Bipin, a resident of Aloi village under Marthapur Panchayat. Rescuers faced significant difficulty in retrieving the young man along with the heavy engine from the deep water.
A large crowd gathered at the accident site, and an atmosphere of grief has descended over the locality.
