Mayurbhanj: Tigress Zeenat, brought from Maharashtra’s Tadoba-Andhari Tiger Reserve as part of the big cat supplementation project, is doing well, informed Similipal Tiger Reserve (STR) officials.
According to STR sources, Zeenat is thriving in the core areas of Similipal, regularly preying on wild animals like sambar, chital, and wild pigs. The tigress is being closely monitored through satellite tracking and camera traps, which provide valuable insights into her health and movement. Forest officials are keeping a close watch to ensure her well-being.
“Currently, Zeenat is moving within the core of our reserve, primarily staying within the core areas since her release. She’s actively preying on wild animals like sambar, chital, and wild pigs, indicating a healthy adaptation to her new environment. Our dedicated tracking teams monitor her 24/7, receiving regular satellite updates on her position. Camera traps in the core area capture her movements, providing valuable insights into her overall health. We’re pleased to report that Zeenat is in good health and doing well”, informed Deputy Director of Similipal Samrat Gouda.
This development comes after Zeenat’s notable escapade last year, where she strayed out of Similipal and traveled across three states – Odisha, Jharkhand, and West Bengal – for 23 days before being recaptured and returned to the reserve.
