Bhubaneswar: Two persons have been arrested for allegedly extorting Rs 4 lakh from a senior OAS officer by posing as Vigilance Officers.

A joint team of Odisha Vigilance and Rourkela Police apprehended the accused duo, identified as Ganesh Prasad Nanda and his relative Pradeep Kumar Panda, on December 11, 2025, following reliable inputs about their extortion attempts.

A case has been registered at Bonai Police Station under various sections of the BNS and IT Act, 2005.

The accused from Subarnapur district used multiple mobile numbers and threatened government officials with false Vigilance cases, alleging bribery and fund misuse. In this way, they used to extort money from government officials for not conducting raids and DA searches.

They are being forwarded today to the Court. Investigation of the case is in progress.
