Phulbani: A horrific road accident occurred on Saturday afternoon in Kandhamal district when a car and a motorcycle collided head-on near Dungi village under Tikabali police station limits. The impact of the collision was so severe that both vehicles caught fire on the spot, triggering panic in the area.

According to sources, the car was travelling from Kalingia towards Phulbani, while the motorcycle was coming from the opposite direction. The violent crash resulted in the motorcycle rider and his pillion passenger—both brothers—sustaining serious injuries. The car driver, however, escaped with minor injuries.

Upon receiving information, the Tikabali Fire Brigade rushed to the accident site. Fire personnel promptly rescued the two critically injured persons and managed to extinguish the flames engulfing the car and the motorcycle, preventing further damage.

The injured brothers were initially taken to Tikabali Medical for emergency treatment and were later referred to Government Medical College and Hospital, Phulbani  due to the severity of their condition.

The injured have been identified as Rangalal Nayak and Charan Nayak, residents of Bedasuga village under B. Bapalamendi Panchayat in Chakapad block, within the Tikabali police station jurisdiction.

Police have begun an investigation to ascertain the exact cause of the accident, while traffic movement in the area was temporarily disrupted following the incident.
