Bhadrak: In a tragic road accident, two persons lost their lives after a head-on collision between a private bus and a motorcycle near Kakharudihi on the Ankur-Chandbali-Bhadrak main road on Wednesday.
The bus, named Jay Maa Tarini, was traveling from Bhadrak to Chandbali, while the motorcycle with two riders was heading from Chandbali to Bhadrak. The vehicles collided with severe impact, leaving both bike riders critically injured.
The deceased have been identified as Amit Behera and Ganesh Behera, residents of Balipatna village under Chandbali police station in Mahulia panchayat. Locals rushed them to Chandbali Community Health Centre by ambulance, but doctors declared both dead on arrival.
Eyewitnesses reported that the bus driver fled the scene immediately after the accident, triggering chaos at the spot. Angry locals blocked the road, demanding immediate compensation for the victims’ families and action against the errant driver.
Chandbali police station officials, along with the tehsildar, reached the spot and are negotiating with the protesters to clear the road and restore normal traffic. A case has been registered, and police have launched a search for the absconding bus driver.
