Bhubaneswar: Two individuals have been convicted and sentenced to rigorous imprisonment by special vigilance court in Phulbani in a corruption case.
Biswambar Kanhar, former Sarpanch of Bhrungijodi GP, and Biswanath Kanhar, former GRS who is currently working as an assistant teacher in Kakatpur of Puri, were found guilty of misappropriating government funds meant for labourers under the MGNREG scheme.
The Special Judge, Vigilance in Phulbani, sentenced both convicts to four years of rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs. 10,000.
They have been taken into jail custody to serve their sentence. Odisha Vigilance will now pursue the dismissal of Biswanath Kanhar from his teaching position following his conviction.
