Baripada: Purnachandra Bindhani, considered the first press photographer in Odisha, passed away after prolonged age-related ailments in Baripada on Sunday. He was 100 at the time of his death.
Born in August 1924, Bindhani’s camera captured moments from the princely era to the present day.
Bindhani was attracted to photography while studying at Baripada High School and his hidden talent was recognised by his teacher Jagat Mohan Sen.
When Bindhani was struggling to make a career in photography, Maharaja Pratap Chandra Bhanja came to know about his skill and appointed him as his photographer. Since then Bindhani earned recognition as a photographer.
