Bhubaneswar: Vigilance sleuths apprehended an Assistant Executive Engineer (AEE) of Patnagarh RW sub-division, Bolangir district, today.
AEE Sujit Kumar Padhy was caught by Vigilance officials while demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 50,000 from the complainant, the final instalment of the total amount demanded, i.e., Rs 1,00,000.
The accused engineer had demanded Rs 1,00,000 from a contractor (complainant) for clearance of his pending bills, which were not intentionally cleared despite the completion of work.
Following a successful trap operation, the agency launched searches at three of Padhy’s locations due to suspicions of possessing disproportionate assets.
Sambalpur Vigilance has registered a case against Padhy under Section 7 of the PC (Amendment) Act, 2018.
Further investigation is in progress against the accused.
