Bhubaneswar: In a significant crackdown on corruption, the Odisha Vigilance sleuths arrested four former secretaries of Primary Agricultural Credit Societies (PACS) for embezzling public money totalling Rs 64,13,730.
Former secretary of Katarbaga PACS Bhubaneswar Sahu, former secretary of Talab PACS Bhagaban Patel and former secretaries of Kansingha PACS Chhabila Behera and Kantilal Bhoi have been arrested by Odisha Vigilance.
The accused allegedly abused their power, manipulated accounts, and made unauthorized withdrawals related to collected loan repayment amounts and sale proceeds of fertiliser. Withdrawals beyond the limits from the savings bank deposits accounts of members.
The vigilance wing of Sambalpur registered a case under various sections of the PC Amendment Act and IPC. The accused will be produced in court today.
