Bhubaneswar: A tragic road accident occurred when a bus carrying a wedding procession party overturned near Mahadevpali outpost at Kartang Chack under Binika Police Station limits in Sonepur district on Sunday morning.
The vehicle was returning from Boudh area after a marriage ceremony. Members of the wedding party from the Kamgaon area in Bargarh district had traveled to Boudh for the wedding and were heading back to the groom’s house when the incident took place. The bus reportedly lost control and overturned, injuring more than 14 passengers.
According to reports, a total of 54 passengers were traveling in the bus at the time of the accident. All the injured were immediately rescued by locals and rushed to nearby medical facilities. While three of them were admitted to Binika Medical Center, 12 others were shifted to the Sonepur District Headquarters Hospital for further treatment.
Local police reached the spot shortly after receiving information about the mishap and have initiated an investigation into the exact cause of the accident. The circumstances leading to the loss of control of the vehicle are being examined. Arrangements are also being made to send the injured persons back to their homes after they receive proper medical care.
No fatalities have been reported so far.
