Cuttack: Police have registered a case after a woman allegedly was gangraped in the Nischintakoili area of Cuttack district on Tuesday night, Police said on Wednesday.
According to SP (Cuttack – Rural) Vinit Agrawal, the survivor was travelling with a male friend from Bhubaneswar towards Kendrapara when the incident occurred near Sukarpada village on the Cuttack-Chandbali Road.
“When they stopped near Sukarpada village, a group of four to six men intercepted them. The suspects assaulted the friend and allegedly gangraped the woman. The group then fled the spot,” Agrawal said.
Based on the complaint lodged by the survivor, an FIR has been registered at Nischintakoili police station under relevant sections of law.“
Given the sensitive nature of the case, a DSP-rank officer and a lady officer have been assigned to lead the investigation. Multiple teams have been formed to trace and arrest the accused. We are conducting raids at various locations and are hopeful of making arrests soon,” the SP said.
Police said the survivor is receiving medical assistance and support. The investigation is underway.
