Woman Beaten To Death Over Dowry In Ganjam

Bhubaneswar: A woman was allegedly beaten to death by her husband after her family failed to meet dowry demands in Ganjam district.

The incident took place at Benugoura village under Rambha police limits on Wednesday.

According to sources, the couple got married last year. After a few days of marriage, the groom’s family has been demanding dowry which included Rs 2 lakh cash. As the bride’s family expressed their inability to give Rs 2 lakh, the groom’s family started meting out torture on the bride.  The bride was allegedly beaten to death by her in-laws and groom on Tuesday.

The victim’s father-in-law, mother-in-law and sister-in-law reportedly fled the scene after the incident. However, police have detained the victim’s hubby and started questioning him.
