Bhubaneswar: A woman and her 22-year-old daughter were killed after being struck by lightning in Nunpani village under Kosagumuda tehsil in Nabarangpur district on Sunday.
The deceased have been identified as Dayamati Muduli (45) and her daughter Champa Muduli (22).
According to reports, the mother and daughter had gone to their agricultural field to collect Kusum fruit (Ceylon oak) from a tree when the weather suddenly turned inclement around 3 pm. Heavy rain and thunderstorms lashed the area, during which the duo was struck by lightning while standing in an open field.
The impact of the lightning strike proved fatal, and both were found dead on the spot.
The incident has cast a pall of gloom over Nunpani village, with residents expressing shock and grief over the sudden tragedy.
